hello there, friend,
in light of our last two letters, i have to share something i sometimes forget... and that is, the restorative power of the outdoors. perhaps, like me, you work hard and think hard, and try to cross things off your to-do list. you take care of yourself, and those around you and you feel like you are doing a fair job. (even if there are occasional mini melt downs.)
my husband texted me yesterday on the way home from work and wanted to check out a park near the river in a nearby town. i was initially resistant, i felt like we should have dinner around the table together, and keep working on the week's to do list, make sure the kids had homework finished, that they had practiced their instruments...
but i said yes. we bought sandwiches and ate them on the way and then explored the most beautiful park along the new river. the kids climbed trees and did cartwheels and somersaults, talked incessantly, took pictures of birds, and just had fun. no arguing, no youtube, no cajoling, just fun. and the light was amazing. in that moment i know i exhaled a long long breath and realized the evening was just what we needed...
