Hello there, friend,
We are halfway through our summer, but it doesn't feel like it at all. This year, summer feels elusive. It's out there somewhere, but I have yet to feel it. In some ways, I want to grab summer with both hands and squeeze all of the fun out of it. But, in other more realistic ways, I want to write it all off, call this year a wash, and move on to the next thing.
I feel that tug you describe between doing what needs to be done and wanting to make things fun in your last week of summer. What is essential? That is a good question. For me, right now, essential is putting my arms around my kids a hundred times a day. It's sitting at my desk to work and also finding a quiet moment to read a page or two of a book. It's walking the aisles of Home Depot with my husband. It is seeking out peace wherever I can find it.
