hello there, friend,
this weekend the weather was truly amazing. crystalline blue skies and warm temperatures. late saturday afternoon we found ourselves trying in vain to keep everyone off digital devices. it can be exhausting to parent teens who have 'nothing to do'.
finally i realized we needed time at the river. we grabbed hammocks, books, blankets and frisbees, packed up a picnic and left the house a mess. and we had the best time. the river was a beautiful shade of midnight blue - not the green that it becomes later in summer, the leaves just starting to come out, birds were flying everywhere and the most amazing evening light fell over the field above the river's edge.
there is something about being outside that soothes the savage beast in all of us. instead of making every effort to connect as a family, it happened organically. there was nothing to distract or interrupt us - except swallowtail butterflies, northern parulas, and common mergansers. a few hours later, as the sun dropped behind the mountains, we packed up to head home with full and grateful hearts... no grumbling or complaining.
