Hello  there, friend,

Yesterday was a surprise. I spent most of my day at the hospital. My mother broke her elbow and had to have surgery to repair it. It was a lorng emotional day that ended with good news and lots of hugs. By the end of it, I was ready for a big glass of wine and a good night's sleep.

When I returned home, the kids were already in bed and I told my husband that I was exhausted and didn't really want to talk. But that wasn't true. What I wanted was for him to listen and carry some of the weight of the day for me. I felt so heavy and talking to him lightened the load.

Today my mother goes home and I'll go over there this afternoon to visit. I'll take her a pile of magazines and a card the kids picked out yesterday while I was gone. It will be short, just long enough to say hello and see how she's doing. But I'm glad to do it, glad that I'm here, glad that it's the summer, glad that I have time.
