hello there, friend,
the last few mornings and evenings my son has been training for a mile race that coincides with our town's street festival next weekend. upon waking he laces up his shoes and asks for a ride to a trail with a mile marked out.
he's been frustrated by how hot it is even early in the morning and by how much slower his time is now than when he had been timing his runs in late spring. but he continues to challenge himself to run, sometimes sprinting the straights at the track or up and down stairs or hills, stretching on the living room floor when he returns.
i'm amazed at his fortitude and reminded, too, that whatever our motivation or goal the most important thing is just to begin. this seems to be a recurring theme for me the last few weeks. yesterday i listened to someone mention newton's law of inertia and how an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by another force. the point is that it's easier to keep doing something once you've started... but starting is the hardest part.
