hello there, friend,
i constantly tell myself 'you can do hard things' and the new motto in our family (said with a somewhat whiny voice) is, 'it's just hard!'. and it's true. just like you say, this is what we sign up for when we choose to live a life with integrity, when we choose to love with our whole hearts, when we choose to seek beauty in all things, and when we feel our emotions fully.
and our children learn this from us as we help them navigate their emotional life, as we talk about how hard the work can be, as we hold them and love them, listen to them and observe how they interact with the world around them. as they go out into the world and come back to the safe haven of home.
this weekend our baby turns sixteen. she's doing plenty of hard things and i'm doing my best to support her. we have been muddling through her teenage years together, each learning from our mistakes as we go. paramount to me is giving her the message that we love her no matter what. we love her not for who she will become or who she was, but for who she is right now.
