hello there, friend,

you and i both had a retreat this past weekend. our church goes on a retreat each fall for an overnight at a camp about 10 miles from us. most families stay overnight, although we often elect to come home for a good night's sleep in our own beds. it's high enough in elevation to be a little cooler and far away enough that there is no wifi or cell phone service. i hadn't realized how much i was looking forward to it, until we arrived and each of us left our device in the car. for about 28 hours we were without and it was lovely.

last week i had been craving white space and time without the intrusion of technology. we've talked about the necessity of this before. i often take a break on sundays, but not for longer than eight hours or so. coming off the heels of this weekend and reflecting with my husband, i can see that it's necessary for each of us. we watched our kids connect with their peers and with other generations at this retreat and this was possible largely because they were ALL there, and not distracted. it felt so good to start this week energized, well rested, and more clear in my mind than i've felt in weeks.
